Plans and Needs as of April 2024
· 1-clean and mow area and get long pin ready....
· 2-fill in around tee area, mow, work on ideas for egress
· 3-Stairs needed to pin, clear out the wooded section to the long pin, and work on the next new longer pin needed, then on the way to 4 clear the honeysuckle to the rocks again....
· 4-Clear honeysuckle to the rock, clear the rocks on the cliff up, redo the stairs to the pin location, clean out the area by the tee, by the road the growth there needs to be cleared out as well.
· 5-Clear out the area in front of the pad, clearing the pad area as well...Tighten up the stairs, clean out the area to the left side of fairway more..fix the circle of rocks, will need more rocks, remove the downed trees and continue to pile up behind the rocks placement, on the short pin, work in the new trail to the downed area, continue to work on trail down to 6 on the back end of the hole, continue to clear out the right side trail to 6 as well....
· 6-clear out the left side hill, work the stairs, and look at some replacement ideas going up, the right pin needs desperately to be cleared out as well and cleaned up, clean up the trail to 7 pad....
· 7-Clear out the start of the fairway on the right side, removing honeysuckle mainly, clean up the short pin location and remove the downed trees in the fairway, can be moved to the hillside to create better "fairway" for the hole.....clear out the long pin and start to work on the "longer pin" and clear out the area there and start to work on the needed bridge (telephone poles, railroad ties) to build up an earthen area to cross. Clear out the long pin and then all the way to the cliff to the east for the new holes.......
EDIT--New Hole conversation.....
· A-clear out the honeysuckle, and removed dead trees heading into the Southwest for a short hole....this will need to be cleared out well and removed, probably with a new opening to one of the new holes going in to get the debris out...there is a homeless encampment that looks to be no longer in use for about 4-5 people that needs to be removed, get that out and clear that area so that.....
· B-clear out the honeysuckle along the area on the North east to create a RHBH hyzer shot, the hillside to the south will be needing to be cleared as well, but would be beneficial for a turning shot hard right, and clear towards Chestnut to make way for a good hole.....then going across the Chestnut to use stairs, and the stairs and the concrete need to be cleaned, more accessible and usable for pedestrian traffic (this will be a PIAC request for a walkway across the road to get from the park to safe passage 1 of 2 requests) to then cross the cliff drive road to.....
· C-clear out to the east, and leave a lot to the west for a fairway above the road, with protection to the road with discs, this will be a straight tunnel shot honeysuckle galore needs to be cleared.....
· D-This is pretty straight forward uphill, a few placements, the tricky part is going to be to ensure that E doesn't get any interference on their shot, but should be relatively easy.....
· E-Clear out the honeysuckle, fun shot downhill into a grove that needs to be cleared, but should be a fun shot, then going to F will be utilizing the stairs to once again cross Chestnut (again PIAC to use the stairs existing to create safe passage to ...
· F-this areas has recently been cleared out to start, but needs to have more work done to make it playable, there will be 3 pins here one directly under the bridge truss one past that, and one on the hill slope towards the lake, all of these placements should be within a good safe distance of potential fishing individuals, and then you will walk up across Cliff Drive to G.....
· G-Will really just need to be eased on the honeysuckle, this hole is a RHBH Anhyzer shot that will have longer placements to give it teeth and challenge and then walk to 8
EDIT—END New Hole conversation.....
· 8-Clear out the wooded placements, and the hillside needed and the rock all along the cliffs needs to be exposed, this wall all the up past the hanging basket on #9 needs to be cleared out and looked upon with some care, but clearing and cleaning and mowing is best done here fix the trail back to 9....
· 9-Tree off the fairway on the east needs to go, it is dead, the 2 big protector trees of the pin to the trees, the front one is dead, and needs to be saved somehow as a mode to protect shots, but uncertain how, the entire cliff side and the teeing area need to be cleared and cleaned, obviously the stage area can use a reboot, and this area in particular needs to be looked at during rain to look at erosion control and to help within the spot, the part after the cliffs on the right side of the fairway needs to be cleared as well, as the left side to the hill it has grown over and needs attention on both sides. The long pin here needs a clearer vision for the shot so the west side is needed to remove more honeysuckle....
· 10-right side honeysuckle clearing, the view to the water needs to be reworked on the SE from the pad, the trees towards the pin need to be trimmed of the growth underneath them and trimmed up in general towards the basket....
EDIT--New Hole conversation.....
*This next section is really talking about the existing holes as they lay currently, but this portion of the course may be entirely redone a very easy 9-hole course or removed with additions to the park to increase positive activity within, however as the course sits now, we want to ensure that work on what we have currently....
· 11-the pins to the right by the dying tree needs to be lengthened to the next tree, that tree should be gone within the year, so lets plan accordingly, we can use the practice basket for a longer setting as well we could use some trees here, but this part may ....
· 12-tidy up the wrought iron fence line, maybe a tree here or there....
· 13-Clear and try to remove trash, the right side is horrendous as it has been over the years.....keep tidy, but keep a wall of foliage to thwart discs from going right down the hill....
· 14-fix short pin, look at replacing the short pad as well.....
· 15-clear out and keep clean mainly
· 16-Really ok here
· 17-Clean out ivy off trees, look at trimming tree under the basket in the trees, replace the long setting
· 18-Wrought Iron clean up
· 19-Trees??? Clean otherwise....
· 20-Work on long placement and clear out more around short placement, Long placement needs some love, but also work on incorporating some foliage to thwart roll aways from the location long....
· 21-Get parks to remove the trees they put in the new long placement, clear out the area in front of the pad, clear out the area by the original long pad, hillside clean up is always needed from trash, and honeysuckle, try to expose as much of the hillside as well......
Thats the ideas in my brain as I see them today....(4.21.24)
With the addition of the holes A-G that would put in 19 holes away from the reservoir, and I would work on turning one hole from 2 into 1, I have some ideas, this would enable the projects within the park to be aligned with their goals as well as continue to keep a solid course within Cliff, and some more wooded fun in there....
I am going to try to work more on the existing holes before I start to look at the Lettered holes, because the holes really 3-9 haven't been used in a few years, and not cleaned up as much as they should. I have met with Parks and rec #KCPARKS so they are aware of the plans, but as of now, I really want them to work on the existing land to clean up so that we can go that direction.
If you have any questions, please let me know, otherwise, this is what the plan is, as well as taking the trash out as we can when it comes in......
And if you made this far.....WOAH, congrats!
